Smart Cities India Awards 2019

Smart Cities India Awards is an annual event designed to felicitate, recognize and encourage individuals, policy makers, companies, government bodies and associations working behind the successful execution of the mammoth dream of developing 100 smart cities and rejuvenation of 500 cities in India. With its 4th iteration, the award recognizes pioneering projects that aim to make cities more liveable, sustainable and economically viable by honouring best practices and models in the smart cities concept. The objective is to foster development of future cities enhancing quality of life, innovation, competitiveness and efficient management.


Smart Cities India Awards 2019 Categories

Smart City Award

To recognize the city project that integrates upgradation and innovation for sustainable economic growth from, but not limited to, the following sectors:
  Carbon emission reduction
  Education
  Energy: Clean & Green
  Health
  ICT
  Infrastructure
  Mobility and transportation
  Safety and surveillance
  Urban development
  Water management/conservation, etc.

Architectural Design Award

This award category invites entries from associations / individuals / organizations who have conceptualized and designed a building or complex / project / locality / neighbourhood / city showcasing:
  Innovative design and technology used in smart and sustainable architecture
  Offering smart infrastructure solutions
  Using green and renewable energy
  Improving livability and use of spaces

Green Building Award

To recognize initiatives to develop and promote healthy, sustainable, environment friendly, energy and water efficient residential / commercial establishments that:
  Conservation: Use of recycled, renewable, reclaimed materials
  Energy: Zero energy buildings, energy efficiency
  Parks: Healthy spaces for residents
  Rooftop solar projects
  Utility (Energy, transportation, water, waste management, etc.): Efficient delivery of services
  Waste: Segregation / recycling kitchen & fecal waste

Energy Award

Inviting applications from companies, institutions, organisations and utilities providing energy efficiency / sustainable energy solutions including smart grid and smart metering comprising:
  Energy asset management initiatives
  Energy asset management to use resources optimally
  Business / financial models for sustainable grid and metering
  Smart lighting
  Reducing energy consumption or cost, etc.

ICT Award

To recognize and encourage development of innovative ICT tools and digital transformation through mobile applications. Inviting entries from academia, individuals, government, non-profit entities, organisations and PSUs involved in integrating people, processes and data to achieve business transformation and growth. Using ICT to transform business processes, improve delivery of public services to create and provide a positive impact on society. Initiatives undertaken to develop the city by providing core infrastructure and a decent quality of life to its citizens. To provide affordable, scalable and innovative ICT led solutions, this category includes:
  Digital India: Mobile apps and innovation
  E-governance: Technological innovation in delivering government services
  E-learning & education: Improving content, design, delivery and assessment of academic learning
  Healthcare: Innovation in facilities making it accessible & reasonable
  Skilling & training: Innovative tools to build market relevant skills & harness potential
  Sustainable environment: Innovative and novel solutions driving economic growth

Safe City Award

Projects executed in a city by an association/ government/ private company combining:
  City surveillance: Internet of Everything enabling safe city
  Disaster management: Emergency response system and technologies
  Fire detection: Efficient and advanced fire detection systems
  Monitoring: Crowd flow & management
  Network security: Technologies and products
  Tracking: Efficient detection & tracking systems and technologies
  Traffic management: Intelligent traffic management & security integration
  Video analytics and surveillance: Monitoring and providing information in real-time in anticipation of risks

Urban Mobility Award

To recognize the efforts/ programmes of public and private companies in mobility (automotive, aviation and logistics), energy (oil and gas, utilities, alternative fuels) and chemicals. The project explores three specific areas at the intersection of mobility and energy: alternative fuels, energy efficiency, and the electrification of transportation (hybrid vehicles). The category will include:
  Building smart and interconnected transport system
  Improving communication, integration and efficiency of transport system
  Improving public transportation
  Pedestrian safety & facilities
  Promotion & implementation of green and sustainable mobility
  Promotion & introduction of non-motorised transport system

Water Project Award

To recognize projects and initiatives undertaken by companies, individuals and organisations to build sustainable water projects to conserve water resources; provide safe and clean drinking water; community owned water projects, etc. Initiatives include:
  24x7 water supply
  100 per cent access to water
  Industrial water management: Nil effluent by treatment for re-use
  Providing safe and clean drinking water
  Use of technology and equipment
  Water management and treatment
  Waste water management: Re-cycling & re-use
  Water harvesting, etc.

Smart Village Award

To recognize village projects that integrate upgradation and upliftment of various (socio-economic, infrastructure, recreational) facilities to make life productive, smooth and accessible for the villagers. Projects executed include, but not limited to:
  Economic viability & sustainability: Access to market
  Education: Literacy programmes designed for children, women, senior citizens, etc.
  Energy: Projects providing power and electricity supply
  Health: Providing 24x7 healthcare to villagers, successful projects / programmes for reduction of female foeticide, infanticide, sex education, etc.
  Infrastructure: Projects for supply of water, roads, recreational areas or re-lifting the rural face of the village
  Mobility and transportation: Connected to nearby villages and cities
  Safety and surveillance: Providing for safety and surveillance of villagers, etc.
  Swachh toilets: Building & maintenance of toilets

Smart SPV Award

Smart SPV recognizes projects from the designated special purpose vehicle (selected under Smart City Mission, Govt. of India) that are promoting sustainable development in urban areas in India, as well as stimulating inclusive, equitable, safe, healthy and collaborative cities, thus enhancing quality of life for all. Submissions are requested from Smart City SPVs or respective ULBs. SPV’s/ ULB’s to include details of:
  Types of services being delivered
  Reliability & quality of services delivered
  Infrastructure created
  Technologies adopted
  Examples of transparency provided
  Whether progress report instituted, etc.

Digital City Award

To recognize the city project that uses digital technologies to transform business processes, improve delivery of public services to create and provide a positive impact on society. The parameters include:
  Details of the project: Number of projects implemented/executed, location, size, timeline, investment involved, planning, , etc.
  Impact: Target Vs achieved, progress, etc.
  Strengthening digital infrastructure: Integrating public safety, IoT enabled infrastructure, WiFi & Internet connectivity, etc.

Green & Clean City Award

This category invites nominations from city municipality, associations, organisations, companies, PSU’s, etc. involved in building a clean and green environment. The parameters include:
  Details of the project: Number of projects implemented/executed, location, size, timeline, investment involved, planning, etc.
  Impact: Target Vs achieved, progress, etc.
  Technologies adopted: Clean technologies (e.g., alternates fuels in public transport), reduction in carbon levels or low pollution (air, noise, water, no use of plastics, etc.), reduction of waste generation, practicing reduce, recycle and re-use
  Sustainable infrastructure: Adoption and promotion of renewable energy, solar rooftops, etc.

Municipal Corporation Award

This award category recognizes projects by Municipal Corporations that identify critical areas including:
  Public spaces: Area planning & architecture, building parks, town halls, etc.
  Education: Building infrastructure, libraries, etc.:
  Skilling & Training: Building infrastructure & programmes
  Sewage: Building drains, public conveniences, toilets (water supply, maintenance, etc.)
  Water supply: Building 24x7 water supply infrastructure
  Transportation: Safe & comfortable public transport, pedestrian safety, introducing non-motorised transport, ensuring last mile connectivity, roads, bus stops, etc.
  Technological upgradation: Adoption and promotion of renewable energy, solar rooftop, WiFi connectivity, digital infrastructure, IoT, etc./td>
  Retrofitting: Maintaining & modifying existing architecture, infrastructure, etc.

Public Private Partnership Initiative Award

Under PPP initiatives, companies and associations are requested to share:
  Details of the project: Number of projects assigned, location, size, timeline, investment involved, planning, implementation etc.
  Impact: Target Vs achieved, progress, etc.

Real Estate Project Award

This award category recognizes group housing, hubs, mega zones, parks, projects, townships, etc. The participants are requested to share:
  Details of the project: Number of projects assigned, location, size, timeline, investment involved, planning, implementation etc.
  Impact: Target Vs achieved, progress, etc.

Heritage City Award

This award category recognizes projects implemented, executed and undertaken made to preserve the authenticity of architecture along with restoring and replenishing the lost art and glory. The parameters include:
  Details of the project: Number of projects implemented/executed, location, size, timeline, investment involved, planning, development in architecture etc.
  Impact: Target Vs achieved, progress, etc.
  Conservation, retrofitting & refurbishment: Preserving biological diversity, natural beauty, aesthetic importance of historical & heritage sites, artistic and literary works

Academic Programme Award

This award category invites nominations from educational institutions and companies involved in education & technology sector to share methods adopted improve education system including:
  Details of the project: Number of projects implemented/executed, location, size, timeline, investment involved, planning, etc.
  Impact: Target Vs achieved, progress, etc.
  Building education infrastructure: Teacher training & skilling programmes, E-learning, M-learning, E-classrooms, etc.

Health Project Award

This award category recognizes projects, services and solutions made in the health sector. Companies, associations, individuals are requested to share:
  Details of the project: Number of projects assigned, location, size, timeline, investment involved, planning, implementation etc.
  Impact: Target Vs achieved, progress, etc.
  Services offered: Affordable healthcare services & delivery, developing vaccines/medicines, introduction of advanced medical treatments, etc.
  Technology infrastructure: Introducing e-Health/ m-Health & other innovative technologies
  Training & skilling: Building infrastructure & programmes for health workers/staff, etc.

Municipal Solid Waste Management Award

  Details of the project: Location, size, quantity of waste treated & processed, etc.
  Impact: Target Vs achieved, environmental & social benefits, etc.
  Methods adopted: Elimination, minimization and collection by safe methods
  Technologies adopted: Waste handling and transport
  Disposal solutions: Waste management by suitable techniques & delivery

Biomedical Disposal Waste Award
